Spirit@Work Cards: Bringing Spirit and Values to Work

by Lance H. K. Secretan

There are cards of many types in the marketplace-Tarot Cards, Medicine Cards, Angel Cards and more—but none designed specifically for use in business or the workplace. So we decided to change that!

Spirit@Work Cards is a boxed set which includes a book and two sets of 77 illustrated cards containing key words and phrases that form the essential components of Higher Ground Leadership® They are all words, such as authenticity, courage, empathy, humility, integrity, legacy, purpose, respect, service and trust, which are the words that are lived by inspiring leaders. Their purpose is to help you invite spirit into your work and life.

There are two sets of cards—a large set for regular use, and a much smaller set for traveling. Each card is decorated with a unique design and original artwork by David Rankine, featuring a different word and art for every card. The complementary, velvet-covered book contains companion text for each of the 77 words represented by the Spirit@Work Cards, and a verse by Marie Knapp and can be used as a guide for using the Spirit@Work Cards, or to provide additional food for thought and some stimulating ideas suggested by that word.

These cards can be used in many ways.  For example, when beginning a workshop or retreat, they are an excellent way for each participant to introduce themselves:  everyone pulls a Spirit@Work Card and then builds part of their introduction around that word by explaining how it is important to them in their lives. They can also be used during meetings: perhaps a tense conversation about budgets or the strategic plan is taking place, nerves are being strained and the energy is tense.  The facilitator asks for a time-out and asks one person to select a Spirit@Work Card and then invites the group to discuss how that word, and what it means and stands for, can inform and support the current discussions.  The tone of the dialogue immediately—and always—transforms.

These Spirit@Work Cards are uncanny—everyone always says, “How did this particular card find me—it’s perfect!”  Try starting your day by selecting a Spirit@Work Card—it will change the way your day begins, and therefore turns out.
