A Chain of Appreciation and Kindness

A couple of weeks ago, the phone rang in our office. It was R.J. calling from Michigan. He wanted to know if we had a supply of our highly popular “Kindness Coins” (similar to our “Inspire Change” coins) óhis father had recently passed away and he felt that the coins embodied much of what his father stood for.

It seems R.J. had received a Kindness Coin some months ago. While he was dining at a restaurant, he noticed a gathering of family members seated at a table close by. As the grandfather of the group prepared to take a picture of his entire family, R.J. volunteered to take it for him, so that, he too, could be in the photo. After R.J. took a couple of pictures, he handed the camera back, and the elderly gentleman reached into his pocket and pressed a Kindness Coin into R.J.ís hand. R.J. had never seen one before, and he prized it.

Months later, R.J.’s father passed away, and in a moment of reflection, R.J. remembered the Kindness Coin. He tracked down the Secretan Center and ordered 400 Kindness Coins, giving one to every person attending his fatherís funeral, because it reflected the caliber of the man and what his father stood for. And it had extra appealóhis father was Canadian! A fitting remembrance for a kind manóby a kind man.

Little acts of kindness and appreciation mean so much, and because they seem so rare these days, they are valued even more. Who can you show appreciation to for their kindness?
